ABOUT HENRY
Henry Sparks is a performing artist and educator based in Chicago, Illinois. Hailing from the Pacific Northwest, he has performed internationally as a trombonist in jazz, funk, rock, concert, and chamber ensembles. His playing has taken him to national and international success, winning the 2021 American Trombone Workshop Jazz Soloist Competition (Division II Ages 22-29) and as one of 3 finalists in the International Trombone Association's 2021 JJ Johnson Jazz Competition. Henry graduated from Central Washington University in December of 2018 with a double major in BM Trombone Performance and Music Education, and completed his MM Jazz Studies Degree from DePaul University in June of 2022. Henry is currently a low brass teaching artist at The People's Music School (Chicago, IL). Henry is an in-demand clinician, most recently at College of DuPage as a 2024 Fall Artist-In-Residence. As a private instructor, he teaches trombone, improvisation, and brass pedagogy in the greater Chicago area.
